JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, responded to the long traffic jam in the Puncak area, Bogor, West Java during the long holiday yesterday.

Wiku stated that the government actually allowed people to travel as long as they were still maintaining the implementation of health protocols.

"In principle, the government does not prohibit people from doing activities, people can carry out activities including mobilization if they are committed to maintaining health protocols, both before, on their way, and when they arrive at their destination," said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, March 1.

Although there is no ban on activities, Wiku asks the public to be aware of the risk of COVID-19 transmission, especially in areas that are potentially prone to crowds.

"To prevent crowds, people should be able to set priorities and measure the risk of transmission during activities, people can avoid crowds to visit and delay travel, especially for the elderly as a vulnerable group," he explained.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Suntana said the severe traffic jam on the Puncak Line, Bogor Regency, on Sunday, February 27, was due to 10 vehicles breaking down while crossing.

"Yesterday there was a density because there were several vehicles that broke down in the middle of the road. There were about 10 vehicles which resulted in quite a long queue," he said at Simpang Gadog, Ciawi, Bogor.

Therefore, the National Police stated that they would evaluate the congestion that occurred in the Puncak area, Bogor, during the long holiday last week. This evaluation is to prevent long traffic jams from happening again.

"Bogor traffic jams are part of a thorough evaluation," said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo.
