Government Asked To Stay Alert Even Though COVID-19 Slopes

JAKARTA - The chairman of the MPR RI Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) asked the government to remain vigilant even though the trend of COVID-19 cases nationally has begun to sag.

"I ask the government to remain vigilant and provide the best service for people who have been declared exposed to COVID-19 and its variants," he said in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 1.

Besides that, he continued, the government continues to give advice to the public, even though the trend of cases and daily hospitalizations nationally has begun to sag. The public must still be aware of the transmission of COVID-19, especially when in public areas.

"The public is expected to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols as one of the prevention efforts, given the characteristics of this Omicron variant, which has a high and fast transmission rate," he said.

The consistency of the decline in cases in the next two weeks in all provinces, he said, must be maintained, as one of the evaluation materials in determining policies related to handling and controlling the pandemic in the future.

The next thing, continued Bamsoet, is that the central and regional governments need to be concerned about the increase in the number of deaths of patients confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the midst of this wave of Omicron variants.

"By providing good treatment for patients and accelerating COVID-19 vaccination, especially for vulnerable groups," he said.

He conveyed this considering that until now there has not been a decrease in death cases at the national level.

Bamsoet asked for a commitment to continue to focus on providing the best treatment to suppress active cases.

"Especially in a number of provinces that are known to still experience an increase in cases, such as Yogyakarta, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and North Sumatra," he said.
