PDIP Legislators Are Concerned That President Jokowi Is Not Firmly Responding To The Russia-Ukraine War

JAKARTA - Member of Commission I of the DPR PDIP faction, Effendi Simbolon, assessed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) were not firm in responding to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This can be seen from the President's and Foreign Minister's tweets that did not mention Russia in the call to stop the war.

"We are concerned that the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not firm," said Effendi, Monday, February 28. Effendi assessed that Jokowi must immediately determine a clear stance. He also mentioned that the 2022 G20 Summit (Summit) is in danger of being cancelled.

"Apart from that, the President is actually in his attitude that we do not tolerate military and state operations to other sovereign countries for any reason. We should have a clear attitude," he said.

According to the PDIP politician, Jokowi's decisive steps are needed because Russia has violated international law.

"Because that's why invading a sovereign country is a violation of international law. After all, we must determine the disagreement," he said. Effendi regrets that Jokowi has no firmness considering that Russia has taken actions that cannot be justified because it attacks a sovereign country.

"If it happens to Indonesia, it will be very disadvantaged if there is an attitude that does not have such firmness. Because this is an invasion of a sovereign country, it cannot be justified," continued Effendi.
