BMKG Detects 2 Hotspots In East Trumon District, South Aceh

ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected two hot spots in Aceh that have the potential for forest and land fires (karhutla).

"Two hot spots have been detected throughout the day in the Aceh region, so we urge residents to be aware of fires that can cause fires," said BMKG Class I Data and Information Section Head Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar Zakaria Ahmad in Banda Aceh, Antara, Friday, 25 February.

The two hotspots were detected in East Trumon District, South Aceh Regency with a moderate level of confidence, from the results of the Terra, Aqua, and Suomi NPP satellite sensors. Previously, early last week, the BMKG also detected 20 hot spots in the Aceh region.

Aceh is still in the transition period from the rainy season to the dry season. Characteristics of the transition period, such as erratic weather, sometimes it rains, then clears up immediately, or vice versa. Then also uneven rain, strong winds, lightning to lightning.

"Currently Aceh is still in a transitional period which is estimated to last until the end of February 2022," said Zakaria.

Indeed, said Zakaria, a number of areas in Tanah Rencong have experienced uneven rain or light to moderate rain in recent days. Likewise with the potential weather the next few days.

However, he continued, there are also regencies/cities that experience drought, which makes it easy for fires to occur, especially in peat forest areas.

"Therefore, we still have to be wary of fire, because the weather is uncertain, sometimes it rains, suddenly it's hot again," he said.

In addition, BMKG also reminded residents of the potential for high sea waves in the next few days in the Aceh region. He said, for the northern waters of Sabang and the northern part of the Malacca Strait, the potential for sea waves is up to 4 meters.

Furthermore, the waters of Sabang-Banda Aceh and the West Indian Ocean of Aceh have the potential for sea wave heights from 1.25 - 2.50 meters, the waters of Lhokseumawe have the potential to be between 0.50 - 2.25 meters, and the waters of West Aceh and the waters of Meulaboh-Sinabang Islands from 0.05 - 1.25 meters.
