JAKARTA - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Kuala Lumpur through the Transportation Attaché took part in the International World Maritime Week 22 (WMW 2022) Exhibition organized by the Malaysia Shipowners Association (MASA) to promote the Indonesian Shipping School.
The activity which was held on 22-24 February 2022 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) was opened by the Malaysian Minister of Transport, Wee Ka Siong.
In his remarks Wee Ka Siong said the Malaysian government was proud to be able to return to holding this annual event which had previously been postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia Hermono stated that Indonesia's participation in the 22nd EIMW was aimed at promoting the human resources of shipping school graduates under the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), Ministry of Transportation.
The graduates of this school have the capacity and skills of reliable international standards and are able to compete with the human resources of seafarers from other countries.
Meanwhile, the Transportation Attaché, Capt. Supendi said that his party was promoting four shipping schools in Indonesia consisting of the Jakarta High School of Shipping Sciences, the Semarang Maritime Science Polytechnic, the Makassar Maritime Science Polytechnic and the Surabaya Shipping Polytechnic.
According to Supendi, these four schools annually graduate an average of 300 people with international standard certification qualifications.
"In this exhibition, a 'one on one meeting' will be held with various shipping company partners in Malaysia to capture the interest of Malaysian shipping service companies in recruiting graduates from the BPSDM school of the Ministry of Transportation," he said.
Supendi also added that there are still quite wide opportunities for graduates of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation BPSDM to fill the human resource needs in the field of sea transportation services in Malaysia, so this activity will be optimized to promote the human resources of seafarers from Indonesia.
Until now, the number of Indonesian seafarers working for Malaysian shipping companies is around 2500 crew members.
The Malaysia Maritime Week 22 Exhibition was attended by 38 participants consisting of the private sector, the Malaysian government and stakeholders engaged in the shipping and sea transportation industry.
In addition to the exhibition, Malaysia Maritime Week also held a Maritime Conference which discussed the post-COVID-19 maritime landscape and the latest technology on "greener shipping".
The Malaysian Minister of Transport took the time to visit the booth of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, which was welcomed by Supendi.
On this occasion Supendi expressed his gratitude for the involvement of the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation in this activity as well as a means of promoting human resources in the field of sea transportation as well as providing souvenirs in the form of replicas of training ships.
The Malaysian Minister of Transport appreciated the participation of the Government of Indonesia in this activity.
