KARAWANG - Activities at the Miftahul Khoirot Islamic Boarding School in Krajan Village, Manggungjaya Village, Cilamaya Kulon District, Karawang Regency, West Java were temporarily suspended following a fire incident that killed eight students.

The Regent of Karawang Cellica Nurrachadiana said, the cessation of Islamic boarding school activities for about a week was due to the need for repairs to buildings that were sold out.

"God willing, the regional government, assisted by the TNI-Polri, will repair the burned buildings. With different layouts and conditions, so as not to traumatize the students with the old buildings," he said in Karawang, Antara, Tuesday, February 22.

Repairs to the new boarding school building will be carried out after the police investigation is complete.

"We will also try our best to help our brothers and sisters, our children who are being afflicted by disaster. Hopefully the santri who died will be husnul khotimah. Meanwhile, the families left behind will be given strength, fortitude and patience," he said.

Currently the pesantren is temporarily closed for about a week. After it was opened again, the Regent said that he would accompany the students for trauma healing.

"There are around 750-800 students from MI, MTs and MA at the pesantren," he also said.
