TEMANGGUNG - Hundreds of truck drivers staged a strike around the Madureso Terminal, Temanggung Regency, Central Java, Tuesday, February 22. The drivers rejected government policies related to the restriction and prohibition of over-dimensional over-loading (ODOL) trucks.

In this action, the drivers parked their trucks around the Madureso Temanggung Bus Terminal, exactly on the edge of the ring road, south of the terminal, and the road leading to the city of Temanggung.

The truck drivers who had gathered south of the Madureso Terminal asked a number of passing trucks to stop. During the action, they also unfurled a banner that reads

'We do not reject the ODOL policy but we demand a solution to the ODOL policy and the 'Mumet regulation respects drivers' struggle'. A number of truck driver representatives held an audience with the Head of the Temanggung Regency Transportation Service, Suprianto at the Temanggung Dishub office.

The chairman of the Temanggung Truck Drivers Association (Patut) Anwar Sururi said this was a peaceful demonstration to find out more about ODOL vehicles, because the majority of drivers did not know.

"So we went to Dishub just to find out what ODOL is, that's why we came here so that later on the road we don't violate it," he said.

The Head of the Temanggung Regency Transportation Service, Suprianto said, drivers from various goods transportation associations in Temanggung held a solidarity action to support fellow drivers in other areas who today also expressed the same aspirations.

"So this activity is not only local in Temanggung, it is also happening in several areas. They want to convey their aspirations regarding objections to the ODOL rule," he said.

He said that in principle, because this is a national policy from the Ministry of Transportation, the aspirations of the drivers will be submitted to the Ministry of Transportation through the Central Java Provincial Transportation Agency.
