JAKARTA - The Banjarmasin Police Criminal Investigation Unit, South Kalimantan named a woman with the initials RA as a suspect for the owner of an online social gathering with a total loss of billions of rupiah for the victims.

"We have detained our RA since last night after the results of the case were determined as suspects," said Banjarmasin Police Chief Kombes Pol Sabana Atmojo Martosumito, Monday, February 21, quoted from Antara.

He explained, the determination of the suspect after a marathon examination conducted by investigators on witnesses or reporters until two sufficient pieces of evidence were met.

Sabana appealed to people who were also victims to report immediately because it was suspected that there were quite a lot of victims both in Banjarmasin and outside the region.

"For the time being, there are more than 100 victims who participated in the social gathering with losses calculated to reach billions of rupiah," he explained, accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Banjarmasin Police, Kompol Alfian Tri Permadi.

As for the modus operandi, said Sabana, the perpetrators invite people through Instagram social media to join social gatherings with the lure of big profits.

So, for example, if a victim chooses a Rp10 million slot, they are promised Rp13,500,000 or a Rp30 million slot will get Rp40 million.

The activity was carried out by the suspect since 2017 until many of the participants have now lost money due to the alleged crime of embezzlement and fraud.

"We also apply the Articles of Money Laundering (TPPU) so that all of their assets are impoverished again, we hope that the victim's money can be returned," he added.
