Indicator Survey: 14.3 Percent Of People Admit Rarely Wearing Masks When Going Out Of The House, 1.1 Percent Never

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Political Indicators Survey Institute released a poll on people's behavior in using masks when leaving the house during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senior researcher for Political Indicator, Rizka Halida, said that there are still people who admit that they rarely and never even wear a mask when they leave the house.

However, the figure is indeed lower than people who always and often wear masks to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

"We see that 49.1 percent or almost half always wear a mask when doing activities outside the home, 30.6 percent often wear it, 14.3 percent rarely wear it, 1.1 percent never wear it, and those who don't know or don't answer 4 .9 percent," said Rizka in a virtual survey presentation, Sunday, February 20.

If dissected in socio-demographic segmentation, the percentage of using masks outside the home in urban areas is higher than in rural areas.

As many as 86.3 percent of residents in urban areas often or always wear masks and 8.5 percent rarely or never wear masks.

Meanwhile, 73.1 percent of residents in rural areas often or always wear masks and 22.3 percent rarely or never wear masks.

"So residents admit that they always wear and at least often wear masks in each socio-demographic basis," said Rizka.

It is known that this survey was conducted in the period from January 15 to February 17 2022 to respondents who are Indonesian citizens who are 17 years old or older, or are married, and have internet access via a smartphone when the survey was conducted. The survey was conducted through random interviews via online questionnaires to 626 respondents. The margin of error for this survey is estimated at around 4 percent and the survey confidence level is 95 percent.
