Constitutional Court Postpones Trial Until February 20 Due To COVID-19 Spike

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) has decided to postpone the trial related to the judicial review case, starting from Monday to Sunday, February 20.

The trial was postponed following the surge in cases of COVID-19 transmission over the past two weeks, as well as the implementation of Level 3 community activity restrictions (PPKM) in DKI Jakarta.

"Delay the trial of the judicial review of the law, which has been scheduled for February 14, 2022 to February 20, 2022, and is rescheduled for later," said a written statement received in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 15.

In addition, as of Sunday, February 13, as many as 75 employees in the Constitutional Court and one constitutional judge were positive for COVID-19 based on the results of the swab test. Therefore, the Constitutional Court took anticipatory steps to prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19 by delaying the trial.

However, for disputes over the results of regional head elections (pilkada), the trial can be held in a hybrid manner by implementing strict health protocols.

The trial of the law review case will be held again starting Monday, February 21 with careful consideration of further developments in actual conditions.

Regarding public services, application submissions, and other matters relating to case administration, can be done online.

In general, employees within the Constitutional Court carry out their duties or work from home (work from home), in accordance with applicable regulations, from February 14 to 20, 2022.
