LUBUKBASUNG - The Taqwa Batang Damar Mosque, Jorong Tantaman, Nagari Tigo Koto Silungkang, Palembayan District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra was burnt down.

The guardian of Nagari Tigo Koto Silungkang, Doni Candra, explained that the fire burned the entire mosque building which was founded in 1970.

"Residents tried to extinguish the fire that was spreading in the mosque building before the fire trucks arrived at the location," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 15.

He said that the fire was still spreading and the wood on the roof had been consumed by the fire.

For the fire brigade, they are still on their way to the location considering the location is quite far from the fire brigade post.

"I've contacted the firefighters and officers are on their way," he said.

Regarding the source of the fire, his party and local residents did not know and residents found the fire as it spread.

"There were no casualties as a result of the incident, because the mosque was empty," said Doni Candra.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of Satpol PP Damkar Agam, Helton said, two firefighters had been dispatched to the location along with 12 officers.

"The two fleets that were dispatched were from the Command Post in Ampek Koto District and the location of the fire was quite far from the command post," he said.

He appealed to residents to increase vigilance during dry weather conditions by keeping flammable materials away from fires, not burning just anywhere and so on. This must be done so as not to become a victim of a fire that destroys property.

"We have conveyed the warning during a meeting with residents," said Helton.
