PALU - The National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Representative of Central Sulawesi hopes that there will be a bright spot from the results of the ballistic test investigation carried out by the National Police for the shooting of a resident during a protest against mining in Parigi Moutong Regency some time ago.
"The process of examining and scientifically testing firearms used by police personnel must be carried out in an open and transparent manner, so that the public is aware of the progress of investigations carried out by law enforcement officers," said Head of Central Sulawesi Komnas HAM Dedy Askary in Palu, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 15.
According to him, the steps taken by the Central Sulawesi Regional Police by scientifically testing through ballistic tests on firearms used by police personnel when carrying out their duties are a concrete effort to prove who and what actually happened.
In addition, transparency in the investigation process is also to assure the public that the institution has carried out efforts and taken the steps that should have been taken.
"This incident is part of a valuable lesson for all of us. We also ask the police so that this incident needs to be an important record in evaluating demonstration security procedures so that this incident does not happen again," said Askary.
His party consistently oversees the investigation process carried out by the Central Sulawesi Police, including the examination of firearms and projectiles through ballistic tests by the Police Forensic Laboratory.
He also asked residents to respect the investigation process until later if a suspect is named in the investigation process, because what the police do is part of the public's expectations.
"Hopefully this process will bear fruit," he said.
The Head of Public Relations of the Central Sulawesi Police, Kombes Didik Supranoto, said that currently the Police Forensic Laboratory team took samples of approximately 20 firearms and projectiles.
From each weapon, three projectiles have been taken as samples, and a total of 60 projectiles will be matched.
"The ballistic test was carried out at the Police Forensic Laboratory in Makassar, South Sulawesi and is still in progress," said Didik.
According to him, all the weapons examined were related to projectiles found at the crime scene (TKP).
Furthermore, the Central Sulawesi Regional Police have also issued a police report, because there was a criminal act, because there were fatalities.
"Regarding the suspect is still in the process of being investigated, one of which is waiting for the ballistic test, we are still checking and if it is suitable, further developments will be conveyed," said Didik.
