SURABAYA - Ponorogo Regent Sugiri Sancoko denied having faked a diploma, as reported by a non-governmental organization (NGO) to the Regional Police (Polda) of East Java some time ago.

"Even though I wasn't summoned, I plan to clarify the allegations. That's so that my people don't get confused. When the regent faked a diploma, it was funny," said Ugiri after giving a statement at the General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the East Java Police, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, February 15th.

He denied having falsified a bachelor's degree and asserted that he had actually completed his education to get a college graduation certificate.

"Well, if I fake a diploma, I don't know how to do it, yo, I don't understand. I'm in school (Well, when I faked a diploma, how do I make it, I don't know. I'm in school)," he said.

Regarding a board member who had time to verify the Sugiri campus studying at Tritunggal University, he admitted that he did not know about it.

"I don't understand, but what is clear is that I was summoned, that's why I came to explain and clarify," he added. Meanwhile, the Director of General Crimes at the Dirreskrimum of the East Java Police, Kombes Totok Suharyanto, said that Sugiri was reported on suspicion of the crime of forging letters, as referred to in Article 263 of the Criminal Code.

"We will announce the results when the investigation is complete," said Totok.

Regarding Sugiri's alleged fake diploma during the regent nomination period, Totok could not convey this because it was still under investigation.

"Well, we're still checking it hasn't finished yet," he said.

Until now, Sugiri is still a witness in the alleged case of counterfeiting the diploma.

Sugiri complied with the Ditreskrimum summons and arrived at the East Java Regional Police, Tuesday, at 10.45 WIB, using a black sedan.
