BANDUNG - The defendant in the rape case against 13 female students, Herry Wirawan, was sentenced to life in prison by the Bandung District Court (PN).

The panel of judges is of the opinion that there is no element that can ease the sentence for Herry Wirawan for what he did and the impact that had arisen and been experienced by the victim's children.

"To try, to sentence the defendant to life imprisonment," said Chief Justice Yohannes Purnomo Suryo at the Bandung District Court, Bandung City, West Java, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, February 15.

Herry listened directly to the verdict in front of the panel of judges. In the courtroom Herry took off his prison vest and put on a white shirt.

Herry was found guilty of raping 13 female students so that some of them became pregnant and gave birth.

The judge also shared the same opinion as the prosecutor that Herry's actions constituted a very serious crime.

Herry was declared guilty by the judge in accordance with Article 81 paragraph (1), paragraph (3) and (5) in conjunction with Article 76.D of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph ( 1) KUHP as the first indictment.

Previously, Herry was demanded the death penalty by the West Java High Court. However, based on various judges' considerations, Herry was sentenced to life in prison.

The judge assessed that with the sentence, Herry and the victims would not meet again and prevent trauma from the victims.
