JAYAWIJAYA - The Jayawijaya Regency Government, Papua Province appreciates the Catholic church leaders in Kimbim who motivate residents or people to improve the economy by farming rice.

Jayawijaya Regent Jhon Richard Banua when planting rice for the first time in Kimbim today said that there are many rice fields in this district but not all of them have been cultivated or are still unused land.

"The location recently opened by the pastor is very good and we have related agencies, where the Secretary of the Distan, Viktor Malisa and the Head of Infrastructure Marinus Kossay have come down to open locations that used to be vacant land. Hopefully in the future we can open all of them access to existing or sleeping rice fields," he said, quoted from Antara, Monday, February 14.

John hopes that the positive activities initiated by the Catholic church can serve as an example for the church denominations in Jayawijaya so that the community can benefit from the potentials that exist in their respective regions.

"I hope other church denominations will also provide support, invite the community to work. The role of the church is very important, as did the Catholics in Kimbim. This is an example of how we can invite the community," he said.

Regent Jhon said that there were enough rice fields in Jayawijaya to be utilized.

He ensured that the government is ready to provide support for people who want to develop rice fields or other agricultural sectors. "We should try to become a rice granary in mountainous areas because our location is sufficient," he said.

According to him, if the community is committed to providing positive support to the government, Jayawijaya will have no problem with rice.
