Anies Baswedan's Subordinates Say DKI Needs Special Authority To Become An Economic Zone

JAKARTA - Central Jakarta Mayor Dhany Sukma said the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government needs to be given special authority if it later becomes an economic and business area after it is no longer the State Capital.

Dhany explained that to support the concept as an economic and business area, additional authorities need to be carried out related to infrastructure development.

For example, the handling of floods in DKI Jakarta originating from large rivers is under the authority of the central government, in this case the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), not the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov).

"Even though the flood problem can affect Jakarta as an economic and business center. So Jakarta should be given more authority, for example, to manage the big rivers in DKI Jakarta," said Dhany, Monday, February 14, as reported by Antara.

According to Dhany, so far infrastructure issues in Jakarta have been under the authority of the central and regional governments, so that local governments cannot determine policies because they are considered to conflict with the authority of the central government.

In addition to providing additional authority, Dhany also sees the need for financing with special autonomy funds. This is because the transfer of authority from the center to the regions must be balanced with the source of funding.

"The alignment of central and regional policies in the arrangement of authorities must be reorganized, the portion must be widened. If that is not given, how can we dream of becoming a global-scale city," he said.

He added that Jakarta would remain a megapolitan city despite the move of the State Capital (IKN).

Development in Jakarta will also be integrated with buffer areas, such as Bogor, Depok, Bekasi and Tangerang (Bodetabek).

"City development will expand to form new characteristics so that public services will also expand, not only in the local area. But also serving in the regional area," he said.
