Excess Capacity, Gibran Says Surakarta Class 1 Rutan Will Be Relocated To Karanganyar Or Sukoharjo

SOLO - Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the Class 1 Surakarta Rutan, located on Jalan Slamet Riyadi, Solo City, would be relocated to another area with a wider area and ideal for overcoming the excess capacity of the inmates.

"The detention center has coordinated with the relevant regents and plans to relocate to Karanganyar or Sukoharjo Regencies," said Gibran after the initial meeting on the relocation plan at the Class 1 Rutan in Surakarta, Central Java, Antara, Monday, February 14.

So far, the detention center has accommodated inmates from three regions, namely Solo, Karanganyar, and Sukoharjo.

Gibran said the matter of the location could not be ascertained, but the plan was in Karanganyar or Sukoharjo Regencies because there is a large area for relocation of prisons. Gibran claims the two district heads are ready to provide land for relocation.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission III of the DPR, Eva Yuliana, added that her party reviewed the Surakarta Class 1 Rutan and noted things according to the proposal from the Class 1 Rutan. Of course, the move to the detention center was not far from Solo.

"The name will remain the Surakarta Class 1 Rutan, but the place will be relocated to another district close to Solo, namely Karanganyar or Sukoharjo," Eva said.

Kakanwil Kemenkumham Central Java A. Yuspahruddin said the relocation of the Class 1 Rutan in Surakarta City to Karanganyar and Sukoharjo Regencies would be investigated again such as the environment and land area.

"This detention center is the easiest to relocate and does not change its nomenclature, so the process is faster than changing its name," he said.

He said the relocation of the detention center would require a larger area of around 3.5 hectares with a capacity of 500 people. Currently, the Surakarta Detention Center accommodates 555 people from a capacity of 293.
