Transmission In Schools Soars, Bogor City Government Priority For COVID-19 Prevention In Schools

JAKARTA - The trend of increasing cases of corona virus transmission among teachers, education staff, and students has made the Bogor City Government in West Java Province to prioritize efforts to prevent COVID-19 in the school environment.

"Currently, the spread of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, including Bogor. Prevention of transmission in the education sector is a top priority," Deputy Mayor of Bogor, Dedie A. Rachim, told Antara in Bogor City, Saturday, February 12.

Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto previously also said that the daily COVID-19 case data showed that around 240 of the 500+ people who had contracted COVID-19 were teachers, education staff, and students. Therefore, the city government has not planned to re-implement face-to-face learning in schools.

The Deputy Mayor of Bogor said that the city government would coordinate with the West Java Regional II Education Branch Office (KCD) in Bogor City to follow up on reports regarding schools that were still carrying out face-to-face learning.

"It is a concern and we will coordinate with West Java KCD for further action," said Dedie.

​​​​The Health Department on Friday, February 11 recorded 621 COVID-19 cases in Bogor City. This number is more than the number of cases on Thursday, February 10, which recorded 611 cases. Most of the cases of transmission of the corona virus occurred in school residents.

In order to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the school environment, the Bogor City Government temporarily suspended limited face-to-face learning in all schools from 3 to 7 February 2022 and then decided to continue the cessation of face-to-face learning indefinitely.
