GORONTALO - Gorontalo Governor Rusli Habibie announced that he was positive for COVID-19, the Omicron variant. Rusli previously arrived from Jakarta using a Garuda plane.

"I arrived from Jakarta in Gorontalo on Sunday, February 6 with a Garuda plane. The results of the antigen from Jakarta were negative and the results of the antigen test at Gorontalo airport were also negative," he said in Gorontalo, quoted from Antara, Friday, February 11.

Rusli continued his trip to Boalemo Regency to attend the Forkopimda meeting until Tuesday, February 8, he felt a fever and cough, but after undergoing an antigen test again the results were still negative. After reviewing the vaccination implementation in Boalemo and a working visit in Pohuwato Regency, Rusli returned to Gorontalo City on the same day.

"I asked for the antigen again, the result was negative. But because I still don't feel well and the cough is getting more frequent, I asked for a PCR test and the results came out Tuesday night if I was positive for Omicron," he said.

The team of doctors have also traced people who have close contact with the governor, including Idah Syahidah's wife, aide, driver, public relations officer, and the results were negative.

The governor asked that what happened to him be a lesson to anyone, including the public, that the transmission of COVID-19 has not stopped.

"Vaccines and health protocols must continue. For now, avoid crowds first, because this Omicron is quite dangerous," he added.

He admitted that after undergoing treatment for three days by a team of doctors and exercising regularly, his condition gradually recovered.
