MEDAN - Two people suspected of smuggling illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjungbalai Police, North Sumatra.
Tanjungbalai Police Chief AKBP Triyadi, said the two suspects arrested were a woman with the initials MIS (40) and a man with the initials NAS (35).
"The MIS suspect acts as a candidate for PMI, then the suspect Nas as an introduction to the PMI," said AKBP Triyadi, Thursday, February 10.
The arrest of the two suspects began with a raid by officers at the shelter for illegal PMIs in Sijambi Village, Datukbandar District, Tanjungbalai City some time ago.
"From that house the officers secured 20 illegal PMI candidates who would be departed to Malaysia by sea. Consisting of 13 men and 7 women from various regions in North Sumatra," he continued.
The police who carried out the investigation later arrested the MIS suspect.
Meanwhile, MIS admitted that on Tuesday, February 1, it gave a woman a candidate for PMI, who would go to Malaysia without being accompanied by legal documents through an agent named Yasir.
Furthermore, the police then carried out an investigation to Batu Bara Regency and arrested the suspect NAS. The evidence confiscated in this case was a cellphone.
"To account for their actions, Mis and NAD were charged with Article 81 Sub-Article 83 of the RI Law No. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in conjunction with articles 55 and 56 of the Criminal Code," said AKBP Triyadi.
