BANDUNG - The Governor of West Java M Ridwan Kamil proposed that the land area for the State Capital (IKN) in East Kalimantan should imitate the area of Washington DC, the United States which only reached 17,000 hectares or equivalent to the area of Bandung City.

"With the extraordinary size of the IKN, I am afraid that people who want to access the state palace are similar to entering an industrial area," said Ridwan Kamil in a press release, reported by Antara, Thursday, February 10.

The proposal was conveyed by Ridwan Kamil when he was a resource person at the City Paradigm and Architecture in the Future, Architecture as an Artifact of Civilization in the Palace Perspective held by the National Indonesian Architects Association, which was held online.

Ridwan Kamil also emphasized the importance of being a decent place to live in related to IKN.

From his point of view as an architect and urban planner, said Ridwan Kamil, IKN's business is not just moving and building infrastructure and IKN is building the future.

“Building the future must have an identity. The history of modern architecture has more or less reduced a lot of local wisdom, which of course we can find new definitions in IKN," he said.

According to him, the IKN area in its development plan will reach 250,000 hectares and if IKN is designed as a city that is comfortable to live in, then the livability function must be owned.

According to him, the paradigm of building on a large scale is still happening in IKN planning.

"I think land wasting has become a habit in us, if you build a large scale, you tend to like it broadly," he said. Therefore, his party reminded that in designing the space of a city or IKN, development must be based on principles such as making clothes, not narrow and loose. .

The failure occurred in Brazil, it happened in the capital of Myanmar everywhere, physical development tried to conquer the widest possible land, forgetting that humans have psychological limits, motor boundaries that must be arranged, he said again.

"That's why I actually don't like campuses in Indonesia, which are too far from the building. So between buildings, you have to take a car or a car and so on," he said again.

Ridwan Kamil added that over time, because of the habit of not creating cities with the correct scale, they became accustomed to accepting the culture that enjoying architecture had to take a car. to live life.

He said that Dubai is an example of how spatial planning cannot match the rich and poor, but instead creates spatial injustice.

So he hopes IKN learn from failures in other countries.

"And what I'm worried about in the next stage of the National Capital is that later it will only be a collection of architectural catalogs, a collection of buildings discussing aesthetics, building theories, but not forming a city civilization," he said.

His party encouraged the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI) to play an active role in the IKN process. In fact, he hopes that IAI can become a consultant to President Joko Widodo so that the IKN development process does not depart from the principles of building urban civilization through the formula of design, density and diversity.

"So this is a very historic moment, it will never be repeated, yes, the capital twice, it will not happen again," he said.
