The Terrifying Atmosphere In Sorong Triggered The Death Of A Resident Who Was Electrocuted

WEST PAPUA - The atmosphere was tense due to the riots that occurred on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Malawei, West Papua. It is known that the incident was triggered by a resident, EK, who died of electrocution.

West Papua Police Head of Public Relations Kombes Pol Adam Erwind said the incident began when EK was found on the roof of the house between ES and S's houses on Friday, February 4, at 05.00 WIT.

EK's family, who did not accept it, blocked a road in the Malawei area, Sorong, West Papua on Saturday, February 5, at 17.00 WIT.

"So last night someone was electrocuted on the roof, whether he wanted to be a thief or what, we still don't know. We are still investigating, because people have roof tiles," said Adam when contacted by VOI, Sunday, February 6.

“As a result, because indeed, because he died, finally the victim's family was angry. In the end, it was unfortunate," he continued.

The fast-moving police were only able to anticipate the riots on Saturday, at 21.00 WIT. His party forcibly opened the blockade carried out by the residents.

"So in the morning he was found dead, in the afternoon (EK's family) did the imprisonment, at 7 WIT. at 21.00 WIT, it has been opened," he said.

Adam asked the family to be more restrained and submit the case to the police. This is done so that a similar incident does not occur.

"I ask the public to hold back, the police have handed over to find out the cause of the death of the AK. We still don't know. We are still investigating," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Sorong City Police, assisted by the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade Unit, used tear gas to disperse a group of brutal mobs who were blocking a public road and pelting police officers with stones early Sunday.

The mass group blocked Jalan Jenderal Sudirman for 6 hours, which certainly disturbed the activities and comfort of the people. The crowd also brought machetes and arrows as well as stones to block the police from opening the road blockade.

The brutal action was triggered by the death of a local resident who was suspected of being electrocuted above someone's house.

The crowd, who did not accept the death, blocked the road to demand that the police find the perpetrators because for them the death was not caused by electrocution, but was killed.

"We blockade this highway to demand that the police find the perpetrators of the murder of our brother. For us he was killed, not electrocuted," said a mass protesting when they burned tires to block Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Sorong city, Sunday, February 6.

The demonstrators also threatened motorists who were about to cross the road, and threw stones at police officers when they ordered them to open the road blockade.

Police officers from the Sorong City Police and the Papuan Police Brimob immediately dispersed the mass of action by firing tear gas.

The scattered crowds resisted by pelting police officers with stones and also using glass bottles.

The Sorong City Police Chief, AKBP Ary Nyoto Setiawan, confirmed that his party together with the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade were dissolving the Sudirman road blockade.

According to him, the action started when a local resident was found dead on the roof of a resident's house.

Then the police conducted an investigation and found out the cause of death due to electricity and conveyed it to the family.
