JAKARTA - The Kupang District Health Office, East Nusa Tenggara Province, recorded the number of active COVID-19 cases in the area now only 14 patients, spread over three sub-districts.

Head of the Protocol and Communications Section for the Kupang Regency Regional Secretariat, Martha Para Ede in Kupang, Sunday, February 6, said the COVID-19 positive patients were still undergoing medical treatment, by self-isolation and centralized isolation.

Martha Para Ede explained that the 14 positive COVID-19 patients were spread in the Districts of West Kupang, East Kupang and Amarasi.

Reporting from Antara, there is one patient who has been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in Amarasi District and has been in self-isolation for 11 days at home.

In addition, positive COVID-19 patients in East Kupang District have been receiving treatment for 10 days through self-isolation at home.

Martha Para Ede said the most positive COVID-19 patients were in West Kupang District, reaching 12 people.

"The 12 positive COVID-19 patients are still in centralized isolation, because they are in a cluster of workers at PLTU I Panaf Timor," he said.

He added that initially 78 workers at PLTU Panaf Timor were exposed to COVID-19, but 66 other workers have been declared cured of the new type of corona virus infection.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan asked the elderly over 60 years who have not been vaccinated and have comorbidities not to leave the house in the next two weeks to a month.

This is necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the midst of the current outbreak of the Omicron variant.

"I propose the next two weeks to a month for the people I mentioned earlier, the criteria for 60 years and over, it is better to stay at home first, temporarily," said Luhut.

Luhut said COVID-19 cases were increasing. However, he asked the public not to panic because government data showed that the treatment for the new variant was relatively short.

The message was emphasized because the number of cases dying from COVID-19 were generally people who had not been fully vaccinated, were over 60 years old and had comorbidities.
