MUI: Don't Ignore Prokes In All Activities Including Religion

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Fatwa Asrorun Niam Sholeh asked the entire community not to ignore health protocols (prokes) when carrying out social and religious activities.

"In response to the increasing COVID-19 outbreak these days, the Indonesian Ulema Council appeals to all Muslim communities to increase vigilance with discipline in carrying out health protocols," Asrorun said, quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 5.

Asrorun asked the entire community to increase vigilance through discipline in carrying out health protocols so that the number of people who were confirmed positive for COVID-19 did not increase.

The application of health protocols, he continued, must be applied, both when people are working, shopping or carrying out worship such as Friday prayers and congregational prayers.

Asrorun admitted that his party continues to believe that the government is still capable and has the capacity to handle and control the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. So, religious activities can be carried out as usual.

"Thus, socio-religious activities carried out in congregation can be carried out as usual, but still carry out strict health protocols," he said.

To ensure further development of the pandemic, he explained that he would continue to follow the dynamics and developments of policies such as various restrictions on social activities taken by the government.

Monitoring of the policy will continue to be carried out so that worship procedures can be adapted to public policies in controlling outbreaks in the community.

"It is true that there is an increase in the COVID-19 outbreak, but the policy of strict restrictions on social activities is of course the domain of the government and congregational-based religious activities are also an inseparable part of public policy, whether the government will still be able to control it or not," said Asrorun.
