PURWOKERTO - Active cases of COVID-19 in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, reached 222 patients, said Banyumas Regent Achmad Husein.

"Based on data from the Banyumas District Health Office, on Friday (4/2) there were an additional 76 confirmed positive COVID-19 patients, bringing the total active cases to 222 patients," he said in Purwokerto, Banyumas, Saturday 5 February.

Of the 222 COVID-19 patients, he said, as many as 22 people underwent treatment, 37 people underwent centralized isolation, and 163 people underwent independent isolation.

Despite the addition of active cases, he said on Friday (4/2) there were also 65 patients who were declared cured of COVID-19.

"Compared to January 2022 and December 2021, in the first week of February there was a significant increase in COVID-19 cases," he said.

He said, based on data, the number of COVID-19 cases in the period 1-4 February was recorded as 224 patients, while in January 2022 there were 188 patients and December 2021 as many as 32 people.

Despite the increase in cases, he said that there had been no recorded cases of deaths due to COVID-19 in Banyumas from January 1, 2022 to February 4, 2022.

"Alhamdulillah, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in 2022 is still nil and hopefully it will remain nil. However, I ask all residents of Banyumas Regency to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols to avoid the transmission of COVID-19," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Banyumas Regency Health Office, Sadiyanto, said that a number of anticipatory steps had been prepared by the Banyumas Regency Government to deal with the surge in COVID-19 cases in the region.

According to him, these steps include for patients with severe symptoms to be referred to the hospital, patients with mild symptoms must undergo centralized isolation at the Baturraden Quarantine House, while patients without symptoms undergo self-isolation.

"We also carried out vaccination raids to catch up with vaccinations for the elderly because as of February 4, it had only reached 148,543 people or 76.52 percent of the 194,112 target. We hope that vaccination for the elderly can be completed in the next one week. co-morbidities are very vulnerable to COVID-19," he added.
