BANDARLAMPUNG - The Lampung Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) noted that five positive confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 had been detected in its area.

"It is true that there have been additional cases of COVID-19, the Omicron variant, because a new letter was received from Litbangkes," said Head of the Lampung Provincial Health Office, Reihana, quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 5.

He said the addition of five cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 was discovered after sending patient samples to Litbangkes for further examination through Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).

"The five patients detected by the Omicron variant came from Bandarlampung City," he said.

According to him, the five Omicron positive patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

"Because the Circular of the Minister of Health at the beginning before the amendment required everyone to be treated at the hospital, five Omicron positive patients were undergoing treatment there," he said.

He explained that the condition of the five Omicron positive patients is currently one with moderate symptoms and four other patients with mild symptoms.

"All cases have been investigated, for positive cases of COVID-19, the new variant of Omicron," he said.

Reihana said that the past week had seen an increase in the number of positive cases of COVID-19, so several efforts had been made to immediately find new cases in the community.

"In this week, there is a trend of increasing cases, for that the sooner we find cases, the faster they will be controlled," he said.

Reihana said, with the trend of increasing COVID-19 cases, the public is expected to be able to contribute to preventing the expansion of the spread by returning to complying with health protocols.

"Prokes must be carried out again to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 cases, everyone must contribute," he said.
