Although The Sagtas Are Still In Doubt, PB IDI Confirms That It Is Now Entering The Third Wave Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Elected Chairperson of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) Adib Khumaidi emphasized that currently the COVID-19 condition in Indonesia has entered its third wave. Although, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force has not been able to confirm this.

"What is clear is that we have actually entered the third wave at this time," said Adib in a virtual discussion on AMSI Youtube, Friday, February 4.

However, Adib said COVID-19 cases would still increase. So, currently the peak of cases has not occurred. As the government predicted, the peak of cases due to the spread of the Omicron variant occurred at the end of February.

"Then we can say we have entered the third wave, but this is not yet the peak. So, when is the peak? Yes, later," he said.

Adib then explained the factors that indicate that the third wave phase has now started. He said the trend of the positivity rate or the percentage of positive cases from specimen examination was already high.

"The progressivity of the increase in the positivity rate which was initially 16 percent yesterday, then a week later it rose to 24 percent. In fact, yesterday's positivity rate was 33 percent," said Adib.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the government still needs to monitor the rising trend of COVID-19, such as the spike in cases of the Delta variant in mid-2021 to determine when the third wave will be.

"Currently, there has been an increase in daily confirmation cases in the past week. However, we still need time to monitor this trend when compared to the second wave ago," said Wiku some time ago.
