Capital City Moves, Jakarta Becomes A Business City

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to build iconic infrastructure, including pedestrian bridges (JPO) to public facilities for interaction, even though the State Capital (IKN) will later move to East Kalimantan.

"We will become a business city, a 'service city' so that it becomes a destination for urban communities, so when we enter we have new experiences," said Head of the DKI Highways Agency Hari Nugroho in a seminar on organizing Jakarta after IKN moved to Jakarta, Friday, February 4.

According to him, JPO is one of the iconic infrastructures by accommodating the needs of the community, including bicycle enthusiasts to people with disabilities and the elderly (elderly).

The JPO, he continued, also provides a space for community interaction as part of the third room, after the first room at home and the second room at work.

One of the iconic JPOs that accommodates the needs of the community, he said, is the Phinisi JPO in Karet Sudirman, South Jakarta.

"So even though it's not an IKN, it's still a favorite place because there are lots of third spaces," he added.

Meanwhile, the direction of Jakarta's structuring policy, he continued, is for pedestrians through sidewalk revitalization, observing the increase in the number of pedestrians to reach 40 percent in 2020.

For 2022, he said, he would prioritize the arrangement of pedestrians and motorized vehicles through the arrangement of the Kota Tua area, Gambir Station area and the Pasar Baru area.

Then the construction of sidewalks at a number of points, structuring tourist areas and increasing the development of city lighting towards Jakarta to become a "smart city".
