JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria said Law Number 29 of 2007 concerning the Provincial Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta as the Capital of the Republic of Indonesia would be revised.

Prior to the revision of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Law, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) is currently instructing the DKI Provincial Government to compile an academic text containing the face and development of Jakarta after the official capital of the country moved to East Kalimantan.

"We are formulating because we are given time by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the next 53 days to finalize the concept, academic paper and so on, what are the suggestions from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," explained Riza. In this preparation, the DKI Provincial Government will involve experts to provide input on how to develop Jakarta forward. Riza admitted that his party wants Jakarta to remain a special area even though it no longer holds the status of the capital city.

"Is Jakarta in the future an economic center, a trade center, a business city, a financial city or a trade services city, a global or international service city, an education center or a health center," he explained.

After that, according to the former member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the revised academic text of the DKI Provincial Government Law will be brought to the Indonesian House of Representatives to be discussed with the government.

"Later on academic manuscripts, discussions, public examinations and so on. Until later the discussion in Commission II, in plenary, will be promulgated by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights," he added.
