YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government has asked the management of otoped or electric scooter businesses in the Malioboro area to take a week off from activities or during the process of relocating street vendors to new locations.
"For about a week, we have asked the business to take a break," said Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 3.
During the holidays, the local government will make improvements including drafting regulations related to operations and the paths that these vehicles can pass.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service, Agus Arif, emphasized that electric otoped vehicles should not be used on roads.

Nevertheless, Agus said that the Yogyakarta City Transportation Service did not have the authority to issue permits or prohibit electric car rental business activities.
"What we are highlighting is the otoped as a means of transportation or vehicle. That is our authority. But whether the otoped can be used on Malioboro pedestrians or not, I will not comment first," he said.
He also ensured that he would give warnings or take action if there were people or tourists who used the electric otoped driving on the highway.
"For example in Malioboro. Our officers and the police always remind if there are still tourists who use motorbikes on the highway," he said.
