SURABAYA – With the increasing number of cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in a number of areas, Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi asked the lurah and sub-district head in Kota Pahlawan, East Java, to remain vigilant. He even instructed that the area be closed (blocking) if two positive cases of COVID-19 were found in one neighborhood unit (RT).

"As for residents living in the neighborhood, a mass swab test will be conducted," said Mayor Eri when holding a pentahelix coordination meeting to anticipate the rise in the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 at Surabaya City Hall, Monday.

In addition, he continued, his party has also strengthened PeduliLindungi. "So, don't just scan it, but also see, make sure what the color status is (PeduliProtect). In addition, we are re-massizing continuous prokes socialization and swab hunters," he said.

On that occasion, Eri again invited all parties to improve health protocols (prokes). Because, he said, if viewed based on the assessment of the COVID-19 situation, less than 20 percent of positive confirmations, then Surabaya can return to level 2.

"Today, Surabaya inevitably has to strengthen itself again. That's why I ask the sub-district head, village head and head of the puskesmas to strengthen the process again. Do the swab hunter again," he said.

Mayor Eri admitted that he did not want the COVID-19 case in Surabaya to rise again and put the City of Heroes at Level 2. This is because it can have an impact on the cessation of the community's economy which has gradually improved.

"Let's all strengthen Surabaya, which has reached level 1, don't let it rise again to level 2. Don't let the spike that occurs like in August 2021, make all economic activities stop," he said.

Therefore, Eri again encouraged all elements to work together to suppress the COVID-19 case. He also wants monitoring through the Tangguh Village Task Force in every RW to be strengthened again.

"If there are still people who are self-isolating, please evacuate them so they want to be in centralized isolation. With centralized isolation, cases are not easy to spread and are easier to handle," he said.
