JAKARTA - The Surabaya City Government stated that the highest retail price (HET) of bulk cooking oil worth Rp11,500 per liter will take effect in Kota Pahlawan, East Java, on February 1, 2022.

"We ask the public to buy oil commodities wisely. We are also trying to ensure the availability of safe cooking oil stocks in the market," said Deputy Mayor of Surabaya Armuji in Surabaya, Monday, January 31.

Armuji said, the government has re-adjusted the HET for cooking oil following the implementation of the domestic price obligation or DPO for the supply of crude palm oil (CPO) and olein to the domestic market.

With this new price provision, the selling price of bulk cooking oil on the market is set at Rp11,500 per liter, simple packaged cooking oil at Rp13,500 per liter, and premium packaged cooking oil at Rp14,000 per liter.

"We hope that residents don't panic buying, the city government always coordinates with cross-sectors to monitor and ensure the availability of oil stocks on the market," he said as quoted from Antara.

He said the Surabaya City Government had also carried out market operations during January 2022 as well as supervision of oil distributors in the city of Surabaya.

"Indeed, the need for this oil is needed by many residents, including food business actors ranging from small to large. Therefore, it is our concern," he said.

He also emphasized that the public could report if they found cooking oil prices that far exceeded the HET that had been set by the Ministry of Trade to take firm action.
