Bringing Health Agenda To G20, Airlangga Hartarto: Indonesia Will Become A Pioneer Of Health Justice

SALATIGA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto admitted that Indonesia would bring the health sector agenda to this year's G20 event. The plan aims to make global health more inclusive.

According to Airlangga, Indonesia has a mission to bring the interests of developing countries. Especially in the field of health justice. One of them is justice in access to COVID-19 vaccines.

In front of hundreds of public lecture participants who were physically present, and 5,000 online participants, the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party DPP said that the emergence of the Omicron variant in the world was due to the injustice of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Omicron variant itself was first detected in an African country.

“The Omicron variant arose as a result of the unfairness of the COVID-19 vaccination. Indonesia is lucky with the COVID-19 vaccination," said Airlangga while giving a public lecture at the Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga, Central Java, Saturday, January 29.

Airlangga explained, as the holder of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia will be a pioneer for health justice throughout the world.

He admitted that RI's role would be to encourage developed countries to agree on a global health project that is inclusive for all countries. Not only for developed countries, but also for developing countries and poor countries.

The chairman of the Committee for Handling the Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) emphasized that Indonesia is still lucky to be able to catch up with the achievements of the COVID-19 vaccination, so that the pandemic can still be controlled. In fact, Indonesia is in a row of countries that are considered successful in vaccination programs.

"Indonesia, India and China are the countries with the best handling of COVID-19," he said.

However, Airlangga asked the entire community to continue to cooperate with the government in dealing with the pandemic. The trick is to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols and participating in the success of the vaccination program.
