KENDARI - The Department of Education, Youth and Sports (Dikmudora) of Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, stated that the teacher initials MW at SDN 50 Buton who punished students by telling them to chew garbage has now been temporarily disabled.

Head of Dikmudora Buton Harmin, said the decision to temporarily disable the teacher from the teaching process was based on the results of a meeting between the principal and the teacher council.

"So I and the school principal have agreed to give sanctions to the teacher. Don't teach first because the information we get is that there are students who are traumatized, afraid of the teacher," he said via text message from Kendari, reported by Antara, Friday, January 28.

Harmin explained that the incident began when the MW teacher was teaching 4th grade students at the school, but the 3rd grade students were noisy because they had not carried out the teaching and learning process. Harmin said the 3rd grade teacher was late because he was taking shelter at a resident's house due to being caught in the rain.

Then, the teacher who taught in grade 4 then went out to grade 3 and reprimanded the students, after that he returned to teaching in grade 4. Not long after, continued Harmin, the grade 3 students sounded noisy again.

The teacher who was teaching 4th graders then rushed back to the 3rd graders while taking the Oreo wrappers that were in the wastebasket right in front of the class. The teacher then tore the Oreo package into small pieces, then told the 3rd graders to chew the trash.

"Maybe because this teacher has reprimanded the children several times, the last time this teacher probably got out of control, left his room in 4th grade to go back into the 3rd grade room. He took the Oreo skin that was in the trash can in front of the entrance. he was torn into small pieces, after that he gave it to the noisy children," he said.

"You eat this (Oreo wrapper) so you don't make a fuss," he said, imitating the teacher's words.

Even so, Harmin emphasized that he did not justify the actions taken by the teacher. He also regretted and apologized for the incident.

"So I also don't agree with what the teacher did," he said.

For this incident, he continued, the school held a meeting on Monday, January 24 with the parents of grade 3 students whose children were punished by the unscrupulous teacher. Unscrupulous MW teachers. Harmin did not mention the time limit for the temporary suspension of MW teachers from teaching, because at this time the incident had been reported to the Buton Police Station by the student's family who objected. The local police are conducting an investigation.

"So if for how long we deactivate it, we are still waiting for the investigation process from the Buton Police," he explained.

In addition, Harmin also asked the principal, including the teacher concerned, not to stop apologizing directly to the student's family.
