MATARAM - The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Navy fielded five Indonesian warships to guard the 2022 MotoGP world-class racing event which will take place at the Mandalika Circuit.

Commander of the Mataram Naval Base (Danlanal) Marine Colonel (P) Djawara Whimbo said the aim of the Navy to deploy the war fleet was to dispel all forms of threats or disturbances, especially in water areas.

"The five ships will later be secured around the MotoGP area, focus there. Now, ahead of the MotoGP, we will focus on dividing the sea around the circuit and the ports," Whimbo said in Mataram, as reported by Antara, Friday, January 28.

There are five ship ports in the NTB area, two on the island of Lombok and three on the island of Sumbawa. The security is carried out by patrolling and coordinating with related parties, such as the Port Authority and Harbor Authority (KSOP), Basarnas, Polair and Bakamla.

"So all components will be involved later," he said.

Whimbo also conveyed a number of vulnerabilities that became the attention of security in the waters. Not only the actions of pirates, but also the task of evacuating victims from shipwrecks, burning or leaking ships.

For readiness to anticipate and deal with problems in water areas, the Indonesian Navy continues to carry out joint exercises.

"As now we are carrying out exercises with stakeholders (stakeholders) at sea to deal with a problem together. For example, piracy, we (TNI AL) and Polairud are moving," he said.

Furthermore, of the five warships deployed in the security of the 2022 MotoGP, one of them has docked at Lembar Harbor, West Lombok Regency, namely KRI Sampari-628.

"While the other four will follow, for one of them is now on its way to NTB. Meanwhile, the three new ships will shift a few days before the MotoGP event," said Whimbo.
