2 Groups Of Residents Clashed In Sorong With 18 Dead Agree To Make Peace

JAKARTA - The National Police stated that two groups of residents involved in the clashes in Sorong, West Papua, agreed to make peace. They leave the handling of cases entirely to the police.

"Both parties have agreed to make peace and submit all disclosures to the police," said Karo Penmas of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Ahmad Ramadhan, to reporters, Friday, January 28.

The peace agreement took place when the police brought together representatives of the two groups. From the meeting it was agreed that there would be no further clashes.

"Both sides promised not to prolong the problem and there would be no further conflicts," Ramadhan said.

"Both sides will hold meetings on a large scale to establish sustainable harmony," he continued.

In the case of the clash in Sorong, the West Papua Regional Police named two suspects. The two suspects with the initials R and L were involved in the assault.

Meanwhile, one person with the initials A is still being sought. He was also accused of being involved in the persecution.

Two groups of residents clashed at Double O Executive Karaoke & Club Sorong, West Papua, Tuesday, January 25. In the series of clashes, 18 people died.

Of the dozens of victims who died, 17 of them were trapped in Double O Executive Karaoke & Club Sorong. Meanwhile, one other died as a result of persecution.
