YOGYAKARTA - The Department of Education, Youth and Sports (Disdikpora) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta plans to temporarily suspend 100 percent face-to-face learning (PTM) in SMA/SMK starting next week.

Deputy Head of Disdikpora DIY Suhirman said the revision of the 100 percent PTM policy followed the emergence of two students of SMAN 8 Yogyakarta who were tested positive for COVID-19.

"Later it may not be 100 percent, it could be 50 percent of class capacity. On Monday (31/1) we will execute the plan (the 100 percent revision of PTM)," said Suhirman, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 27.

According to him, the temporary suspension of the 100 percent PTM will still be coordinated with the principals of high school/vocational schools in DIY.

Not only was it triggered by the emergence of COVID-19 cases at SMAN 8 Yogyakarta, Suhirman said the revision of the PTM also took into account the orderliness of health protocols (prokes) in the school environment.

Based on reports from some school principals, according to him, there are still many crowds that have appeared on the sidelines of the PTM which has been taking place since January 10, 2022.

"Observation of the principal during learning and when he came home from school there were still many crowds, many of whom were taking off their masks," he said.

Because of that, Suhirman said that 100 percent PTM at the SMA/SMK level could later be restarted based on the results of the next evaluation.

To avoid the spread of COVID-19, according to him, PTM can temporarily be implemented by re-combining offline and online.

"So if there are students who feel unwell, they shouldn't need to be asked to go to school," he said.
