JAKARTA - The police thwarted an attempt to smuggle 200 kilograms of marijuana from Aceh to Jakarta. This marijuana smuggling uses an online courier service.

The Jakarta Police Chief, Inspector General Nana Sudjana said that in the case two people with the initials DP and NB were named suspects. They are the marijuana shipping supervisors.

"The team that was formed to follow and at the TKP conducted a search of the Gobox car and found six sacks containing 200 kg of marijuana," Nana told reporters, Tuesday, September 1.

The disclosure of this case began when the Tangerang City Metro Police developed a drug case with evidence of 14.5 kilograms of marijuana in July 2020. From this development, information was obtained that in the near future there will be a shipment of marijuana.

"Approximately one month and received information from the network that in August there will be shipments of goods from Aceh to Jakarta. They are here using cargo delivery services from Aceh to Jakarta," said Nana.

The information is also true, hundreds of kilograms of marijuana were smuggled undercover in sacks and arrived in the Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, on August 31, 2020. So, the marijuana was immediately secured.

Then, the police developed hundreds of packets of marijuana to the recipients. Until finally, the two suspects who were supervisors were arrested.

Based on the results of the examination, the marijuana will be distributed in the Jabodetabek area. Currently the police are still hunting down the mastermind of this group who is suspected of being outside the Jakarta area.

"The statement concerned is that there is control of these two people who are still in pursuit," concluded Nana.

For their actions, the two suspects were subject to Article 114 paragraph 2, subsidiary to Article 111 in conjunction with Article 132 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning narcotics. The suspects face the death penalty.
