The Market In The Middle Of Tomang Residents' Occupancy Burns Ludes

The semi-permanent kiosk at Pasar Timbul was burnt down due to an electrical short circuit.

JAKARTA - The market in the middle of a densely populated area in Tomang Tinggi, which is commonly known by local residents as Pasar Timbul, was engulfed in flames this morning. The market location, half of which has been renovated by PD Pasar Jaya, is located on Jalan Tomang Tinggi, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta.

VOI reporter asked the witness who lived directly opposite the fire location, Akbar Muttaqien, 29 years old.

"I was still awake at that time, at 1 o'clock (01.11 WIB) the lights went out, about half past two it just turned on. After about 10 minutes, people were screaming outside and there was a fire. , "he said.

"Initially from the kiosk there, a fire broke out," he explained again. It only took about 10-15 minutes, the fire had spread to the right opposite his empty house after being evacuated immediately.

Eeng (53), a local native, also agreed on the cause of the fire due to electric short circuit.

Then the sirens of the fire engines from the Tanjung Duren Damkar Unit, West Jakarta sounded loud. It takes 21 units of fire engines to beat the red rooster. The access of the fire team to the location of the fire which was quite narrow was able to extinguish the fire at around 05.00 WIB.

The buildings, mostly semi-permanent stalls made of wood, combined with other materials, caused the fire to spread so quickly. The burnt wires caused by short circuit also caused a fire, causing the three permanent residential buildings opposite to catch fire. It has not been confirmed how many trade stall owners were affected, but no victims were injured or died.

Development is stagnant

The whole rejuvenation of PD Pasar Jaya has stalled since six years ago, 2014. Previously, Pasar Timbul Tomang Tinggi was indeed the daily center of local residents which operates 24 hours and only has one floor. The decision to renovate was finally made by PD Pasar Jaya and for some reason it has not been completed to this day, development has stopped stagnating.

Half of the Pasar area is actually built and has 2 floors but no roof. While the rejuvenation process was taking place at that time, semi-permanent stalls emerged which were occupied by most of the old traders to make a living.

The problem is getting more complicated for the traders who live in these stalls using the services of the local Market Cooperative as the party managing their stalls, not PD Pasar Jaya. The traders also pay monthly payments to the cooperative to get a trading license. When the VOI team looked for sources from the Market Cooperative, no one wanted to represent for certain to provide information.
