Acting Governor Of DKI Orders Jakarta Residents To Maintain Inter-Religious Tolerance

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Teguh Setyabudi advised Jakarta residents to always maintain tolerance between religious believers for the creation of a city that is comfortable and happy for its residents.

"I hope that tolerance will be maintained properly and that DKI will become a city that is also good in terms of tolerance, making all citizens comfortable and happy regardless of religion and ethnicity," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 24.

In order to maintain tolerance among residents, continued Teguh, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) made a number of efforts, one of which was to establish good relations with community and religious organizations.

"We are in good relations with FKUB (Religious Harmony Forum), Church Forum, Walubi (Representatives of Buddhists), and others," he said.

Teguh then stated that until now he had not received any reports regarding the rejection of certain religious worship in the DKI Jakarta area. He hopes that the citizens of Jakarta can continue to maintain tolerance, especially in religion.

As for welcoming the 2024 Christmas celebration, Teguh said, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to bring a atmosphere full of warmth, peace, joy, as well as strengthen inter-religious relations in Jakarta.

Then, to ensure that the 2024 Christmas service will run smoothly, safely, and conducively, Teguh together with the DKI Jakarta Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) visited a number of churches in Central Jakarta this afternoon.

He accompanied Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Budi Gunawan, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar, TNI Commander General (TNI) Agus Subiyanto, and National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The three churches reviewed are the Cathedral, the Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) Samanhudi, and the Protestant Church in western Indonesia (GPIB) Immanuel.

Meanwhile, at the same time, after visiting the Cathedral Church, the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of DKI Jakarta Province Marullah Matali and the ranks of the DKI Jakarta Forkopimda continued their visit to the Santo Paskalis Church and the HKBP Suprapto Church in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta.

"Hopefully the atmosphere will continue to be conducive, security and public order will also be maintained, hopefully so to jointly maintain religious harmony in Jakarta," said Teguh.
