JAKARTA - The National Police Propam revealed the results of an in-depth investigation related to the extortion carried out by 18 police officers against foreign nationals (WNA) from Malaysia during the 2024 Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP). One of them is the number of victims who are said to be 45 people.

"So from the results of the investigation that we have carried out, we need to clarify that 45 victims of Malaysian citizens from our investigation and scientific identification have been found," said the Head of the Propam Police Division, Inspector General Abdul Karim, Tuesday, December 24.

The results of the investigation also denied reports that the number of victims from extortion by members of the National Police reached hundreds of people.

Then, continued Karim, from a series of examinations, the nominal obtained or evidence of money from extortion was also not as circulated.

So far, the National Police Propam has found evidence of extortion carried out by dozens of police officers reaching Rp2.5 billion.

"I need to clarify this as well. That the amount of evidence that we have secured is 2.5 billion rupiah. So don't let it be like the previous news, which is quite large," said Karim.

This extortion case caught the public's attention after the X account @Twt_Rave uploaded a report about the alleged extortion by police officers against spectators of DWP from Malaysia.

In his upload, the account states that more than 400 spectators from Malaysia were victims of sudden arrests and urine tests. The police officer allegedly asked for large amounts of money even though the victim's urine test results showed negative results.

Oknum polisi diduga memeras penonton hingga total 9 juta ringgit Malaysia atau setara Rp32 miliar. Bahkan, mereka yang terbukti tidak bersalah tetap diminta membayar, tulis akun itu.
