KPK Affirms Determination Of Hasto Suspect In Harun Masiku's Bribery Case Is Not Political

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Setyo Budiyanto emphasized that the appointment of the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) as a suspect in the bribery case that dragged Harun Masiku was not political.

"Does this determination have politicization? This is the answer purely law enforcement," said Setyo at the KPK's Red and White building, South Jakarta, Tuesday, December 24.

Setyo also admitted that he did not know about the news that developed regarding Hasto's entanglement in legal cases was carried out to interfere with internal parties ahead of the PDIP Congress early next year.

"So far, yes, we are leaders, there is absolutely no information, input, etc., related to the issue of Congress or all kinds of things," said Setyo.

Setyo also explained why Hasto had not been detained even though he had been named a suspect. According to him, this is entirely the authority of the KPK investigators.

"The leadership also does not have the authority to intervene with investigators. Because educators are independent. Of course, yes, we carry out the process in accordance with existing regulations," he said.

The KPK has named Hasto as a suspect in the bribery case against former KPU RI Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan who also dragged Harun Masiku. In his determination as a suspect, Hasto is said to be actively involved in the bribery case process against former KPU RI Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan and Harun Masiku.

In addition, Hasto is also suspected of obstructing efforts to investigate the KPK to explore the bribery process against Wahyu in order to make Harun a member of the DPR RI elected in the 2019 Legislative Election.

Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman previously recalled that the KPK should not play politics in handling cases that dragged Hasto.

"What must be understood, the KPK should not play too much politics. But if this is indeed part of the law, immediately delegate it to the court so that it is not pros and cons prolonged and I think this is part of my own legal learning," Boyamin told reporters.

MAKI, he continued, supports the KPK in eradicating corruption in enforcing the law thoroughly and immediately brought to court. This is necessary so that the KPK can prove the determination of Hasto as a suspect in a purely legal case

"Because this case cannot be separated from politics where Hasto Kristiyanto is the Secretary General of PDIP who is currently in opposition and that has been echoed by Pak Hasto and PDIP friends and I don't blame that," said Boyamin.
