Iga Swiatek Hope Poland Wins United Cup 2025

JAKARTA The former world number one, Iga Swiatek, hopes that Poland will win the 2025 United Cup after losing to Germany in the final round last year.

The third edition of the United Cup is scheduled to take place from 27 December 2024 to 5 January 2025 at Ken Rosewall Arena, Sydney, Australia.

Swiatek said that Poland had an experienced team so it hoped to return to the final and make up for their defeat last year was so open.

"So what is certain is that this year we want to have another chance. Hopefully we can advance to the final stages of the tournament to fight to win it," Swiatek was quoted as saying on the WTA website.

Last year Swiatek put Poland ahead of Germany after a landslide win of two straight sets (6-3 and 6-0) against Angelique Kerber in the first match.

Poland kemudian berada di juara setelah Hubert Hurkacz yang turun di partai kedua mendapat dua match point melawan Alexander Zverev. Sayangnya, dia kalah sehingga laga lanjut ke partai ketiga.

Swiatek and Hurkacz who took part in the mixed doubles then lost in the last match. They gave up on Laura Siegemund who was paired with Zverev.

"Last year's game brought a lot of emotion, but I still remember it as a positive game. Even though we lost the last game, it was quite entertaining," said Swiatek.

Swiatek arrived in Sydney to start the 2025 season after undergoing pre-season under new coach Wim Fussette. He recruited FUssette after parting ways with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski after the US Open 2024.

Swiatek and Hurkacz will return to lead the Polish squad for the third year in a row. They became second seeded and are in the same group as the Republic of Ceska and Norway.

Poland will play their first match against Norway on December 30, 2024, followed by celebrating the New Year against the Republic of Ceska.
