Nasdem Opens Opportunity For Jokowi To Join After Being Fired From PDIP

The National Democratic Party (Nasdem) stated its openness to anyone who wants to join, including the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who has just been fired from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).

This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the Nasdem Party, Saan Mustopa, during the year-end reflection event of the West Java Nasdem DPW at the Papandayan Hotel, Bandung City, Sunday, December 22.

"Nasdem is a party open to all citizens. So, anyone, including former President Jokowi, can become a member of the Nasdem Party," said Saan.

However, Saan emphasized that the decision regarding Jokowi's joining was entirely in the hands of the Chairman of the Nasdem Party, Surya Paloh. "If that is the decision of the general chairman, we will see the progress," said the Deputy Speaker of the DPR.

Saan also admitted that until now there has been no further information regarding the possibility of Jokowi becoming a cadre of the Nasdem Party. "I don't know about that yet," he added.

Last week, PDIP officially dismissed Jokowi, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution from party membership. The dismissal was stated in Decree Number 1649/KPTS/DPP/XII/2024 which was read out by the Chairman of the Honorary Division of the PDIP DPP, Komarudin Watubun. In addition to the three, 27 other cadres were also dismissed.

PDIP's move to fire Jokowi and a number of his senior cadres has been in the public spotlight and has sparked speculation about Jokowi's next political move, including the possibility of joining other parties such as Nasdem.
