Early Warning Of High Waves Up To 4 Meters In Aceh, Banten And Central Java

JAKARTA The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning regarding the potential for high waves that could reach up to 4 meters. This warning takes effect from Monday, December 23 at 07.00 WIB.

According to BMKG data, high waves ranging from 2.5 to 4 meters are predicted to occur in several water areas, such as the North Natuna Sea, the western Indian Ocean from Aceh to Lampung, as well as the Indian Ocean south of Banten to Central Java.

This high wave condition has the potential to endanger shipping activities, especially for fishing boats at risk if the wind reaches a speed of 15 knots with waves as high as 1.25 meters.

The Tongkang ship is at risk of being affected if the wind reaches 16 knots with waves as high as 1.5 meters. The Ferry ship is vulnerable to being affected if the wind reaches 21 knots with waves as high as 2.5 meters.

BMKG also recorded the highest wind speeds in several areas, such as the Indian Ocean from the western part of the Nias Islands to Mentawai, the Karimata Strait, and the Arafuru Sea.

Wind patterns in the northern region of Indonesia are dominated by movements from Northwest to Northeast at a speed of 8-25 knots. Meanwhile, in the south, the wind moves from Southwest to Northwest at a higher speed, which is 8-30 knots.

BMKG appealed to fishermen and shipping actors to be vigilant and pay close attention to this early warning in order to avoid the risk of accidents at sea.
