Fake Money Case At UIN Alauddin, Bank Indonesia Gives Explanation

GOWA 'Disclosure of counterfeit money cases produced at the Alauddin Gowa State Islamic University (UIN) campus has attracted the attention of various parties, including Bank Indonesia (BI).

The Head of Bank Indonesia Representative, Rizki Ernadi Wimanda, expressed his appreciation for the success of the police in dismantling the illegal practice, while providing important education to the public regarding the characteristics of real money.

In his statement, Rizki emphasized that the counterfeit money produced by the perpetrators on campus was difficult to resemble the original rupiah currency. This is due to the advanced technology used in making Indonesian real money.

We are not in the capacity to distinguish how much percent is. One is different, it is classified as counterfeit money. Security features such as multi-dimensional (multi-color) colors, hidden images (latent image), and special paper materials make real rupiah money very difficult to emulate. In addition, fake money print results generally seem blurry and far from the quality of the original money print," said Rizki.

However, Rizki revealed that until now his party does not have definite data regarding the amount of counterfeit money that has been circulating in the community. He said that the counterfeit money found in UIN Alauddin may be only a small part of a wider similar practice in society.

This activity clearly violates Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency. This case could be just the tip of the iceberg. The counterfeit money circulating may be far more than what has been found, but we don't know the exact scale yet. Therefore, if people find counterfeit money, I urge you to immediately report it to the authorities, both the police and the Indonesian Bank," he added.

Rizki also used this opportunity to remind the public to be more vigilant when transacting using cash, especially with a large nominal amount such as Rp. 50,000 or Rp. 100,000. According to him, people need to understand some of the characteristics of real rupiah currency to prevent being deceived by counterfeit money.

It is not easy to distinguish counterfeit money only by looking at it at a glance, especially if we are not used to paying attention to the details of money. One simple way is to reduce money to see the effect of safety color. Also pay attention to the existence of microtexts that exist in real money. If the writing or image looks blurry, it can be an indication that the money is fake," said Rizki.

On the same occasion, Rizki appreciated the synergy between Bank Indonesia and the police in handling counterfeit money cases. This close cooperation is expected to reduce the circulation of counterfeit money in the community.

"We continue to work closely with the police and related parties to eradicate the circulation of counterfeit money. Apart from taking legal action, education to the public is also our priority. With the increasing public understanding of the characteristics of real money, it is hoped that the circulation of counterfeit money can be minimized," he explained.

He said, this case not only harms the community financially but can also affect economic stability. Counterfeit money, although only a small part, has the potential to undermine public confidence in the national currency.

"Therefore, Bank Indonesia continues to strive to ensure that real money remains a difficult standard to implement," he said.

The case of counterfeit money at UIN Alauddin is a reminder for the public to always be careful in using cash. Bank Indonesia, together with law enforcement officials, is committed to continuing to fight the practice of spreading counterfeit money, either through supervision, prosecution, or education to the public.

If the public finds counterfeit money, Bank Indonesia urges to immediately report the findings to the nearest BI office or the police. Public reports can assist the investigation process and narrow the space for the perpetrators of fake money crimes.
