About Music With Interesting Concepts And Values
In the article "Woodstock and Other Festivals in Disaster" we saw how chaos is often part of a musical event. Still part of VOI's signature series, "Mengusik Gelaran Musik", this time we will discuss how the other interesting aspects of how festivals or music concerts are packaged.
For them, music is mere ear food. Those who seriously embrace this concept usually have an extraordinary ability to capture every element in the sounds knitted into a song. They could even figure out how many layers of vocals were inserted behind Freddie Mercury's screams in the studio version of Bohemian Rhapsody.
But, for others, the sensation of enjoying music demands a lot of other things. Those who believe in this understanding must have witnessed how Pink Floyd brought their equipment to the dead city of Pompeii. Age continues to develop. There are more ways to enjoy music. Especially when music is presented in the form of a concert or festival. The need for innovation has become increasingly demanding.
The cases also increased. It is no longer just a matter of sound system, but also about stage layout, lighting, location, and what kind of drinks are worth selling throughout the event location. The combination of all these will lead a festival of concepts and values. The value that determines how many tickets are sold.
We have summarized three music shows that carry interesting values and concepts. An event that you must attend if you suddenly win or your lottery or YouTube channel is trending for a whole month. Anyway, any form of windfall that you might get.
1. Snowbombing Festival
Snowbombing Festival is an EDM music festival held in the middle of a ski area in Mayrhofen, Austria. This music festival is held every year end, around October, November, or December.
This festival is 20 years old, where ticket sales are always sold out every year it is held. Carrying the big motto "The World's Greatest Show on Snow", Snowbombing Festival offers the sensation of enjoying live music in a snowy area.
And not just music concerts. Spectators can also ski or snowboard because the festival area is located in the middle of the ski area. This music festival is held for one full week and is usually attended by people from all over the world, especially tropical countries who want to feel the sensation of the cold snow.
If you want to stay overnight in the concert area, visitors can sleep in the igloo that has been provided. Or, for those who don't want to spend the night in an igloo, the organizer also provides a concert package that provides a hotel and spa.
2. Florida Keys Underwater Music Festival
This concert was held to invite Florida residents to conserve coral reefs. This music festival has been around for 35 years. Initially, this festival was followed by local residents, until then it helped attract visitors from around the world.
This festival carries a sacred mission to remind humans that land is not the only life in the universe. That we are too small compared to the whole ocean.
The majority of visitors to the music festival which lasts for two days are divers and sailors. The music that is presented is certainly not like most music because there is a water chorus and the friction of musical instruments.
A local artist, August Powers is the person who made the instrument. In order to be played and enjoyed in the water, August assembled a number of materials such as tin and copper. The toughest materials deal with the scouring of seawater compounds.
These materials are inspired by the elements of coral reefs that can last for decades in water.
"The music is not as clear as when you sit in the room with a stereo. However, you can still listen to it and understand the music," said Dave Turner, Executive Director of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce, quoted by Smithsonia Magazine, Wednesday, November 27.
"If you attend the concert, you will recognize the music and will feel all the sounds sound the same. It's just that, it has a slightly different tone," he added.
Not only the concert, the visitors will also be given classes on how to care for and protect coral reefs, considering that several types of coral reefs in Florida are threatened with extinction. "Raising awareness of coral reef conservation is our primary goal," said Turner.
3. 'Silent disco'
You won't find a room or open ground surrounded by music around it. If the party you go to is a silent disco, then only silence will you find.
It's not that there is no music at all. Silent disco is a musical event concept where visitors and performers - usually DJs - connect via wireless LED headphones. And what is unique is that festival visitors are free to choose which DJ music they want to listen to.
Some music festivals that have implemented this concept are the Austin City Limits Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, Euphoria Festival, and Utopia Festival. All of these concerts were held in the United States.
Reporting from the Silent Disco Vibe page, silent disco is no doubt for festival organizers because it is considered truly unique, innovative, and trendy.
More visitors came because visitors had many choices to listen to music from their favorite DJs who filled the festival. Concerts with this concept are also considered not monotonous and represent freedom of art.
