TikTok Wants To Cancel Order To Close Business Operations In Canada
JAKARTA On November 6, TikTok was ordered to close the business run by TikTok Technology Canada Inc. The government made this decision citing national security risks.
In response to this order, TikTok said it had submitted a request for a cancellation to a federal court in the local country. They want to maintain all TikTok operations carried out in Canada.
For TikTok, their business closure rules in Canada are not only detrimental to the company, but also harm hundreds of TikTok employees from the country. If their business is closed, local employees will lose their jobs.
"This order will eliminate the jobs and livelihoods of hundreds of our dedicated local employees, who support the community of more than 14 million TikTok monthly users in Canada, including businesses, advertisers, creators, and initiatives developed specifically for Canada," TikTok said on Wednesday, December 11.
TikTok also stated that opposition to this order was carried out, "the best interests of Canadians." The company that developed this video distribution platform added that it was willing to talk about solutions with the Canadian government.

It should be noted that the Canadian government has banned TikTok's business operations in the country because of the results of foreign investment reviews. According to the government, these rules have been adjusted to Canada's Investment Act.
"Although Canada continues to welcome foreign direct investment, the government will act decisively if investment threatens our national security," the Canadian government said some time ago. "This decision is based on information and evidence collected during the review."
Although TikTok operations are prohibited, this rule is not similar to the divestment rules the US government wants to enforce. Canadians can still access the platform because access is not blocked, but users are asked to pay attention to possible cyber risks.
