Newcastle Forced Arsenal To Swallow First Defeat With Controversy Goal

JAKARTA - Newcastle gave Arsenal's first defeat in the Premier League this season by winning a narrow 1-0 victory on Saturday local time or Sunday 5 November morning WIB.

Anthony Gordon's only goal in the second half became controversial but was passed after a long VAR review.

The match was tough and full of clashes between players. A total of six yellow cards (five for the hosts) were issued by referee Stuart Attwell.

Gordon scored a goal in the 64th minute, after successfully firing a shot from close range after Arsenal defender Gabriel failed to secure the ball from Joelinton's pressure.

There is a VAR review to check whether the ball has left the field in a pre-goal game, a possible foul on Gabriel, and also offside. The referee still approved the goal.

Arsenal tried to pressure Newcastle, but were unable to score a reply until the final whistle sounded.

Arsenal's defeat left Tottenham now the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season. Tottenham will have their game against Chelsea on Monday.

Arsenal are now in third place, while Newcastle are up to sixth behind leaders Manchester City.

After the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was angry that VAR decided to let Gordon's goal go.

"I've been in this country for 20 years and now I feel ashamed. It's a shame and too much is at stake here," said Arteta.
