MANOKWARI - Manokwari City Police (Polresta), West Papua arrested AW (20) who killed a helmet trader.
Manokwari Police Chief Kombes Rivadin Benny Simangunsong said the perpetrator was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Unit Operations Team after searching for two days after the murder of a trader with the initials AM (30).
"Every case that kills another person's life is a case of attention. The perpetrator was arrested this morning at 04.30 WIT," said the Manokwari Police Chief as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 6.
He explained that the perpetrator and his partner first consumed alcoholic beverages and then approached the victim who was currently selling at the Borobudur Market, Manokwari.
The perpetrator then asked the victim for money and there was an argument that led to the stabbing of the victim twice, resulting in the victim's death.
"The perpetrator slashed the victim's temple and stabbed the victim in the neck, causing the victim to lose his life," explained the Police Chief.
The perpetrators were charged with three articles, namely Article 338, Article 368 and Article 351 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) with a minimum prison sentence of four years.
Evidence in the form of a sharp weapon that was disposed of by the perpetrator has been secured, and the police will carry out developments to reveal the involvement of other perpetrators.
"We have just arrested the perpetrator and will be examined. If there is new information that leads to other perpetrators, we will pursue it," he said.
He emphasized that criminal acts that kill the lives of others are not given dispensation in the form of customary settlements, because they can lead to counterproductive measures against law enforcement.

The police also suggested that the victim's family immediately provide information if they receive intimidation from the perpetrator's family or relatives.
"There is no word peace, don't make wrong jurisprudence. The normative law must be applied so that the perpetrators lose," said Rivadin Simangunsong.
In the near future, he said, the Manokwari Police will immediately hold an operation to eradicate thuggery to keep the security and social security situation conducive.
The police hope that all community leaders and other community groups play an active role in providing reports if they see any acts of thuggery in the local area.
"After our appeal was issued, thuggery operations were carried out so that there would be no more crime that would cause other people to die," said Simangunsong.
The head of the Manokwari Police Satreskrim, AKP Nirwan Fakaubun, explained that after stabbing the victim, he immediately fled to the Pasir Putih area and threw away evidence in the form of a knife.
The perpetrator, who knew of his whereabouts, was known by the police and immediately fled into the forest, and a day later intended to escape from Manokwari.
"When the perpetrator was about to run away, we arrested him on Jalan Merdeka and went to take the evidence that had been thrown away. There was resistance but it could be overcome," said Nirwan.
